AThe Leland High School Musical Theater Department has gathered the Peanuts gang for a production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, scheduled to open on March 31, with additional performances on April 13.
Rian Rodriguez, head of the music department, and Liz Taylor, head of the drama department, have combined the talents of their students to produce and direct this musical based on one of the most-recognized and well-loved comic strips ever, Peanuts by Charles M. Schultz. The directors have brought in Marc Racette for his expertise in choreography and costuming.
In 1967, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown opened in a small off-Broadway theater and captured audiences' hearts, playing for five years. The show was revived successfully on Broadway in 1999 by Clark Gesner. The Leland production is the revised Broadway version, containing three new songs, a small change in characters, and some updated material taken directly from the comic strip, representing a day in the life of the beloved 6-year-old hero, Charlie Brown.
Rodriguez and Taylor have put together a very enthusiastic group of talented actors to bring the characters to life. Will Spindler stars as Charlie Brown, while Jessica Golden plays Lucy and Brett Hammon is Snoopy. Kirsten Heher is Charlie Brown's younger sister, Sally, while Cuyler Meade plays Schroeder, Spencer West is Linus, Jennifer Spindler is Peppermint Patty, Nyasha Olmstead plays Francie and Christine Tupou is Marcie.
You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown opens at Leland High School (located at 6677 Camden Ave.) on March 31 in the Leland cafeteria, with additional shows on April 13. Curtain time for each show is 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Leland Bank or from any cast member and are $10 for adults, $8 for students and children.
