Happy (Iranian) New Year
NoRooz, the celebration of the Iranian New Year, begins on the first day of spring. On the eve of the last Wednesday of the Iranian year, which was March 16, a traditional festivity includes jumping over fire. The fire is believed to take away the bad and give back the good. Children, such as Damian Urias, 8, jump over the fire as they sing a song in Farsi that roughly translates to 'I take from you the reds (the good) and I give to you the yellow (the bad.)' Damian was participating in a New Year celebration held at Meridian Market in Princeton Plaza.
