City and district can't
afford to fund complex
With regard to the proposed Sports Complex on McKean Road in the heart of Santa Clara County land--referred to as the South Almaden Valley Urban Reserve--it is surprising to me that the city of San Jose and the San Jose Unified School District have sufficient funds to invest in this county project for the benefit of the private Almaden Youth Association.
Numerous articles in the San Jose Mercury News have reported enormous overruns on the new San Jose city hall building currently under construction. And with the downturn of our economy, the SJUSD finds it convenient to close up to six schools while at the same time shutting off a simple income stream from their McKean Road property. Perhaps somebody could explain this reverse tax cash flow arrangement to me.
Aside from the San Jose city costs to improve the necessary infrastructure to complete this project, presumably the AYA has the necessary, ongoing funds at their disposal to provide the necessary maintenance for the 20-year life of the project.
