In Training: Karen Brown has been training 9-month-old Ruth to be a guide dog for a blind person. For volunteer trainers like Brown, the knowledge that they will be giving up their dogs when the training is done is countered by the fact that the dogs will get a wonderful life while helping blind people live their lives to the fullest.

The city of San Jose has bumped back the planning commission's hearing to certify the project's environmental impact.  More Worried that their elementary school may be eliminated, parents and students, many bearing signs or sporting school shirts, packed the San Jose Unified School District conference room.  More Reasonably secure in the knowledge that their campus won't be closed come fall, administrators at Castillero Middle School are preparing for an influx of students from the neighboring school that is likely to be shuttered next September.  More
