Feathered Friends: Almaden Valley's wild turkey population is not native to the area. In fact, the flocks of turkeys in Almaden Quicksilver Park and Calero Reservoir State Park came courtesy of the California Department of Fish and Game, which planted the flocks in the mid-1980s in order to produce progeny for hunters. Now they are so beloved, resident won't allow their removal.
