Almaden Valley's Holy Spirit School will try to instill "faith in every student," in keeping with the theme of this year's national Catholic Schools Week.
On Jan. 29 Holy Spirit will kick off CSW by keeping the "Faith in Our Parish" with an open house at 3:30 p.m. and a Mass for students, alumni and their families at 5 p.m. Another Mass is set for Feb. 1 at 8:30 a.m. On that day, and on Feb. 3, the school will demonstrate its "faith in our faculty and staff" through tours for parents at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. both days.
A show of "faith in our community" is set for Jan. 31, when new District 10 City Councilwoman Nancy Pyle is scheduled to attend an 8 a.m. assembly. Pyle will present a proclamation to Holy Spirit's student council.
Holy Spirit also has faith in its families to keep the school's spirit alive. On Feb. 4, students' grandparents will be invited to do an activity in their grandchildren's classrooms, then have pizza with their grandkids. Infant siblings of students will be presented with T-shirts emblazoned with the Holy Spirit School logo.
"It's a big hit with the parents and students," says Elaine Luksus, Holy Spirit's director of stewardship and development.
The highlight of the week will be the benefit dinner for the Diocesan School Scholarship Endowment Fund, to be held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose on Feb. 2. The Diocese of San Jose will honor Almaden Valley's William Del Biaggio family as the Donor of the Year for their philanthropic donations to Catholic education at the dinner.
The National Catholic Educational Association and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops established CSW in 1974 "to build community awareness of and involvement in Catholic schools throughout the country," which number about 8,000.
Located at 1198 Redmond Ave., Holy Spirit is a K-8 school that opened in September 2000.
