Janice An, owner of the shop, introduced wine service to the coffee shop by inviting the community in for a free full glass of Cedar Brook wine complemented by a selection of cheese and crackers.

A stream of evening wine-tasters flowed as steadily as the wine was poured at the inaugural cork-popping on Jan. 27 and 28, though An said the Thursday night event seemed a little busier.

The usual pace of the bustling morning caffeine seekers was softened by the glow of tealight candles on tables, and a sense of winding down after a day's work, but there was no softening of the chatter among the patrons. Some mingled about sipping and snacking, while an occasional customer preferred the outdoor seating.

An continued to serve the shop's standard non-alcoholic coffee and tea beverages, including cappuccino and frappio, and scattered among the clinking glasses was a smattering of latte lovers, some huddled over newspapers, a pair of women discussing business plans and one man with a toddler out for an evening jaunt.

In addition to Cedar Brook, An is serving wines in varietals such as Chardonnay, Merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and Riesling under the labels of Salmon Creek, Mont Pillier and Hacienda. House beers include Gordon Biersch, Sam Adams, Fat Tire and Guinness.
