Governor taps Dando as emissary to California's city, county officials
By Sandy Brundage
Former District 10 City Councilwoman Pat Dando, who was forced from office due to term limit restrictions, has secured another job, this time working for the governor.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced on Feb. 2 that Dando will serve as his director of Local Government Affairs.

The $90,000 salary is a $15,000 step up from that of a San Jose council representative.

A spokeswoman from the governor's office declined to comment further on Dando's qualifications for her new post. "We aren't going to go beyond the press release," Julie Soderlund said.

Dando, 58, termed out in December after 10 years on the city council representing District 10, also served on various local boards, such as the League of California Cities.

A native of Vernon, Texas, Dando moved to Almaden almost 30 years ago with her husband and three children. She won a seat on the San Jose City Council in 1995 after District 10 Councilman Joe Head retired in the middle of his term. She was re-elected in 1996 and 2000.

In 1998 she campaigned for mayor against Ron Gonzales. He won by a tiny margin--51.2 percent of the votes to Dando's 48.8 percent.

The former councilwoman has remained coy about whether or not she will run for mayor again in 2006. If she decides for another run at the office, the odds are she'd be facing several former colleagues. District 4 representative Chuck Reed has already tossed his hat into the mayoral ring. Council members Dave Cortese and Cindy Chavez are also considering runs for the mayor's office.
