Wild Blue Yonder: Eight-year-old Michelle Lee from Almaden tries to get her Barbie kite to take to the air during a break in the rain on Feb. 21 at Almaden Lake Park. After a couple of crashes, Lee was able to get Barbie airborne, if only for a few minutes at a time.
Rain Respite: Kids make the most of a break in the weather
The recent stormy weather kept most everyone who didn't have to be out in the rain safe and dry inside. But not everyone wanted to be inside. After days of rain, the children of Almaden Valley were getting a little stir crazy, as were their parents.

On Feb. 21, with the Presidents' Day holiday keeping children from school, young ones and parents alike were looking for any kind of break in the weather to get outside.

They thought they had one in the late morning, as the rain let up and parents and kids rushed to playgrounds to burn off some of that pent-up energy with a little running around. But just as the children were assembling at the playground, the skies opened up again and everyone was forced to retreat into their houses once more.

Later that afternoon, though, the rains receded and children and parents tried again. This time, the weather held, and although the sky was gray the rains had stopped, giving the children a chance to play in the wet sand.

They might not have stayed dry, but they got in some much-needed running around.
