Leland student Chang named an exemplary leader of tomorrow
Besides being a speech and debate standout and a noted pianist, Leland High School junior Ashley Chang has been identified as an "exemplary leader of tomorrow."

Bentley College, a business university in Waltham, Mass., dubbed Ashley one of its "Tomorrow25" in an international competition to find student leaders. Ashley will be honored along with 24 other winners at the Bentley Leadership Forum on May 10. Norman Pearlstine, editor-in-chief of Time magazine, will be the keynote speaker. The Tomorrow25 students will also appear in a national ad in Time.

Tomorrow25 winners were chosen through an international nomination process. Nominations were accepted from business and community leaders, teachers, school administrators, guidance counselors, parents or other students.

Ashley, who was recently crowned Santa Clara County Junior Miss for the class of 2006, has logged more than 250 community service hours, many of them at The Spot Youth Center at Bret Harte Middle School. She is vice president of The Spot's student governing council. She is involved in other groups at Leland, such as National Honor Society, Associated Student Body, California Scholarship Federation and E*PACT--Environmental Partners Advocating Community Teamwork--a club she co-founded that raised $1,200 to help beautify the Leland campus. Ashley has taken first place in national speech and debate tournaments.

"Ashley demonstrates what we're looking for in the Tomorrow25: initiative, citizenship, intelligence, technological savvy, cultural awareness and social responsibility," said Jeff Wright, chairman of Bentley's Tomorrow25 committee. "Ashley also has a commitment to making positive things happen in her community."

"I am very excited to be given this opportunity to interact with leaders and business executives from all over the world at The Leadership Forum," Ashley said. "I am also looking forward to visiting Boston for the first time and definitely will try to have some fun, too."
