SJ police tase man on Via Monte after resident threatened with gun
By Eli Segall
A San Jose police officer resorted to using his Taser gun in north Almaden Oct. 19, pumping a man with 50,000 volts of electricity.
Anthony Bennett, 24, of San Jose, was arrested at the 5700 block of Via Monte on charges of selling narcotics, resisting arrest and brandishing a weapon.
Police spokesman officer Nick Muyo said police received a call at 6:45 p.m. from a woman who said her husband had just been threatened with a gun. Officers were dispatched to Via Monte and found Bennett, who matched the description given by the caller.
Muyo said the altercation stemmed from a longstanding feud between the men.
As a police officer moved to handcuff Bennett, he allegedly tried to flee. He and the policeman fell to the ground, and a struggle ensued. The arresting officers used a Taser on Bennett for five seconds in order to get him to surrender, Muyo said. It took more than one officer to subdue him, Muyo added.
An ambulance took Bennett to Valley Medical Center for treatment. He was later booked into the county jail.
