Feng shui is personal
choice, not quackery

This is in response to the letter 'This Writer Believes Feng Shui is Quackery' published Oct. 5 in the Almaden Resident.

--Editor's note

We've lived in Almaden Valley for several years; first in rental homes and then finally in a home that we own.

Being a spiritually curious person, I convinced my husband that it might be interesting to try feng shui in our last two living sites.

Hiring my consultant wasn't cheap, that's true. I looked at the dollars spent as an investment in peace of mind, adding value to my family's experience of living between this set of manmade walls. I didn't look at the expense as dollars wasted, even though for us, it was an extravagant investment.

Everything in life is a personal choice and a personal decision. Not everything in life needs to be regulated, mandated or dictated. Each of us has our own personal belief system, which can come from either a negative or positive perspective. We purchased our home because it felt right and had the amenities we appreciate, including a koi pond and interesting frontyard landscaping.

After we signed the papers, and before we moved our furniture in, we had our initial feng shui consultation. In my mind, the reality is that if we experience misfortune while living here, we know that feng shui is not to blame. Life happens.

Cup and Saucer should
have been mentioned

Mr. Baxter needed to do his homework before he wrote about five good breakfast restaurants (published Oct. 19 in the Cuisine section of the Almaden Resident). Cup and Saucer Restaurant in Almaden Valley is my choice for breakfast. I am not the only one either; every weekend there is crowd outside waiting to get in. I can't remember a time that I had to wait 45 minutes like Mr. Baxter's five choices.
