Leland's La Rochelle earns place in high school polo all-star game
By Dick Sparrer
Sean Wasserman spent most of the 2006 water polo team staring the likes of Paul Reamy of Palo Alto, Brandt Robinson of Lynbrook and Ryan Incerpi of Los Altos right in the eye. But on Saturday, Wasserman will looking at the backs of their heads.
Instead of facing their shots, the Los Gatos goalkeeper will join the other water polo standouts as teammate on the Division I squad in the Pacific Water Polo Central Coast Senior Boys All-Star Game on Dec. 9, 12:30 p.m., at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton.
Wasserman will be joined on the Division I roster by teammate Kyle Blair and the other stars from the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League--Reamy, Robinson and Incerpi. Leland's Ray La Rochelle and Live Oak's Adam Rule will represent the Blossom Valley Athletic League on the team that also includes Travis Bickham and Tim Hendrickson of St. Francis, David Smith of San Benito, Sam Figueroa of Salinas and large contingents from powerhouses Serra, Menlo Atherton and Bellarmine--Nick Poggetti, Nick Zakula, Aaron Chokar and John Sims of Serra; Todd Hazen, Steven Hicks, Peter Jacobs, Alex Popp, Elliot Walsh and Jacob Morton of Menlo Atherton; and Matt Shields, Jamie Dunnam, Eric MacDowell, Andrew Strawbridge and Patrick MacDonell of Bellarmine.
Still, as powerful as the Division I line-up appears to be, the Division II roster seems equally as ominous.
SCVAL standouts Marco Pance of Saratoga, Derek Jarvis of Cupertino and Jamie Nusse and Will Agramonte of Gunn and BVAL stars Cameron Peachey and Kyle Fast of Live Oak will play for the team that features a large cast of players from the Menlo team that won the state championship this fall.
Mike Merlone, Ben Houl, Matt Hale, Allen Reed, Manson McMullin and Casey Rose are Menlo players who join Hunter Armor and Niel Crews of Santa Cruz, Matt Smith of Valley Christian, Elliot Pessah of Burlingame, Sean McGuire of Harbor and Brian Roach, Tim Schell, Matt Rockwell and Kyle Jacobs to round out the powerful Division II squad.
