More Political involvement for local CA area activists

    By Michelle C. Crowe

For those who count increased political involvement as one of their goals for 2002, local activists (some of whom are also members of the Capri Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association) want to help them accomplish their goal.

The activists are seeking volunteers for the Campbell Union School District's upcoming bond issue campaign, which will be decided in the March 5 election.

Those interested in helping make telephone calls, and distribute flyers and possibly signs, among other activities, to get the vote out for the $74.9 million bond, should contact volunteer Sharon Bingham at 408.378.6675 or sherbingham@yahoo.com.

The city is in mourning after the passing of Larry Ramsauer, founder and CEO of Campbell's own Triple O Systems Inc. Ramsauer was a businessman who lived and worked his political values. Ramsauer began revolutionizing the water purification industry with the ozone purification process he developed in 1989 and patented in 1990.

His system was endorsed by no less a luminary than Dr. Dean Edell, physician, syndicated talk show host and author of Eat, Drink & Be Merry. California law even requires ozonation as the final step before bottled drinking water is packaged, as does the International Bottled Water Association.

Appropriately, the family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association. In that same vein, California Hospice and Palliative Care Association Region V's member organizations, including local Hospice of the Valley and Coda Alliance invite the public to "Talking It Over--The Discussion Before The Advance Directive for Healthcare." The seminar will discuss views on dying, how to become more comfortable talking with loved ones about final wishes, and issues to consider when making end-of-life decisions.

"Many of us don't take the time to think or talk about what we would want at the end of our lives or talk with members of our families about end-of-life choices," says Hospice of the Valley Executive Director Jessica Klinghoffer.

The seminar will be held Jan. 23, 6:45-9:30 p.m. at the Veteran's Administration Palo Alto Health Care System building 101-auditorium, 3801 Miranda Ave., Palo Alto. Suggested donation is $20. Contact Jeanne L. Wun at 947.1233, ext.423, for more details.
