Older children also require safety seats
As of Jan. 1, California state law requires children 6 years old or weighing less than 60 pounds to sit in age- and weight-appropriate child safety seats while riding in vehicles.
The previous law only required children 4 years old or weighing less than 40 pounds to ride in safety seats. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends children using booster seats until they are 8 years old, 80 pounds and 4 feet 9 inches tall.
A child who cannot sit all the way back in an auto seat, whose knees do not bend at the seat's edge and for whom the lap belt does not rest on the thighs and shoulder belt does not center on the shoulder and chest should ride in a booster seat, which will help the child fit better in the vehicle.

Police are looking for good Samaritan
The Campbell Police Department is looking for a good Samaritan who came to the aid of a woman who was robbed as she walked to church on Virginia Avenue near Bucknall Road. A man in a small gold Mercedes witnessed the robbery, stopped his car and chased after the suspect, wrestling the woman's purse away. The motorist yelled for a neighbor to call the police, and the suspect ran away but was later apprehended by officers. The good Samaritan left the scene prior to police obtaining his statement. He is described as a very tall Caucasian man. Anyone who has any information regarding this case can call detective Joe Cefalu at 408.866.2179.
