Suspects plead no contest to charges
Campbell's uncle-nephew duo pled no contest to charges brought against them last Monday.
Steve Foster, 49, of Campbell, and his nephew, William Keith Foster, 35, of Redwood City, both pled no contest on possession of metham-phetamine with intent to sell. Both also admitted to convictions for prior drug sales at their Jan. 24 court hearing. Steve received a two-year prison sentence, and William, who admitted to charges of being armed with a shotgun, possession of a firearm by a felon, and bail enhancement (he was out on bail pending sentence at the time of the crime), received five years. It is illegal for ex-felons to possess weapons.
Once released, the two will have up to three years parole, according to Santa Clara County deputy district attorney Rob Baker.
San Jose police had arrested the Fosters, and another man, Matthew Heinkel, 34, of San Jose, on various charges at an apartment on W. Hamilton Avenue in Campbell Aug. 22. Heinkel, who was arrested for being under the influence and for violating his parole, was tried separately.
At the apartment, police seized $30,000 cash; $20,000 stashed inside Steve Foster's bedroom and an additional $10,000 in his car. After a consent search of the apartment, police found more methamphetamine in the laundry room, and two loaded pistols in addition to a 12-gauge shotgun hidden in the closet. A further search of the apartment also yielded marijuana.
