CUSD elects new officers for 2002
The Campbell Union School District Governing Board has elected new officers for the 2002 calendar year. Nejleh Abed was elected as the board's president; Susan Mayer is the vice president; and Janet Johnson is the board clerk.
Nejleh was appointed to the district's board in October 1999. She was elected to a two-year term in 2000. Nejleh, a practicing dentist in San Jose, recently earned a Governance certificate--a two-year training program for elected board members that focuses on budgets, curriculum and personnel--from the California School Board Association. Her children attend Campbell schools.
Mayer, a full-time mother, was appointed to the board in 1999 and elected in November 2000 to a four-year term. She has also completed a master's degree in the governance certificate program.
Johnson, a program coordinator with Health Trust, was elected a trustee in 1996 and re-elected in 2000. She recently completed San Jose State University's Nonprofit Management certificate program.

Campbell students receive DAR awards
Annie Cho, a student at Del Mar High School; Tara Ann Lebherz, a student at Santa Teresa High School; and Ngoc Huy Truong, a student at James Lick High School in the Campbell School District, have received Good Citizen Awards by the Daughters of the American Revolution, El Camino Real Chapter of San Jose.
The chapter presented all three winners with certificates and pins.
Since 1934, the awards have been given annually by the National Society of the DAR to high school seniors nationwide who excel in dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their schools and communities.
Each girl responded to an essay titled, "Our American Heritage and our Responsibility to Preserve it." Cho was the essay winner. She received a $50 scholarship and a chance to complete at the DAR district level.
