Valentine's Day activities abound in the Campbell area for everyone

    By Michelle C. Crowe

Given the state of the union and economy, fewer couples are seeking out-of-town getaways to celebrate Valentine's Day this year.

But most of the city's hotels are offering either discounted rates or Valentine's Day packages for not only Feb. 14, but Feb. 15-16 as well. Local businesses such as HeartSongs, Essence of Nature, Avery's and The Courtyard already display whimsical, traditional and collectible tokens of love suitable for giving.

The Larkspur Landing Suites, located at 550 W. Hamilton Ave., featuring fully equipped kitchens, are offering turn-down service and candy, a red rose (for reservations made in advance), bubble bath and sparkling cider for $99 a night Feb. 14-16. For more information, contact 408.364.1514.

The Residence Inn by Marriott, at 2761 S. Bascom Ave., also features full kitchens (for those seeking to make their own breakfast in bed), for $89 for any of the three nights. The price includes a hot breakfast. For more information, contact 408.559.1551.

The Campbell Inn, at 374 E. Campbell Ave., and the Pruneyard Inn, at 1995 S. Bascom Ave., offer in-room Jacuzzi bathtubs and complimentary breakfast. For more information, contact them at 408.559.4300 or 408.371.4300 for details.

The Carlyle Hotel, at 1300 Camden Ave., features a $169 Sweetheart Package year-round. That includes rose petals scattered on the sheets at turn-down, a basket of imported and domestic cheese and crackers, a choice of chilled champagne, wine or sparkling water with keepsake glasses, fresh strawberries, European chocolates and a candle, says manager Chuck Allen. A king-size bed with in-room Jacuzzi is available for $179 per night.

The package typically requires 48-hour notice and includes a hot buffet breakfast. Its sister facility, the Bristol Hotel, at 3341 S. Bascom, features a similar package for $179. For more information, contact 408.559.3600 or 408.559.3330.

Owner Marsha Smith of perennial favorite Mio Vicino, at 384 E. Campbell Ave., plans a sweetheart dinner special that will include a choice of salad or soup, an entrée, desert and wine for $34 per person. Call 408.378.0335 for more information.

Three Peppers Multi Cuisine, at 1461 W. Campbell Ave., features a candlelit dinner for two for $29.95. For more information, contact 408.871.7171.
