    PAL Baseball

    The San Jose Police Activities League is currently holding signups for Pony Baseball at PAL Stadium. There are openings in all divisions: Shetland (ages 5-6), Pinto (7-8), Mustang (9-10), Bronco (11-12) and Pony (13-14).

    The season begins March 23 for all divisions except Pony. Pony League play starts April 3.

    Campbell LL Tryouts

    The Campbell Little League will hold tryouts for the 2002 season for players ages 9-12 on Feb. 23. Players should check the website at www.myteam.com/go/campbellca for specific age group tryout times.

    The league will hold tryouts for 8-year-olds on Feb. 23, 1 p.m.

    A clinic for T-ball will also be held on Feb. 23, at 1 p.m.

    All clinics and tryouts will be held at the Campbell Little League fields at Rosemary School, Hamilton Avenue between Winchester and San Tomas Expressway.

    South Bay Soccer

    The South Bay Youth Soccer League is now accepting sign-ups for the spring season for boys and girls in the under-6 through under-14 age divisions (ages determined as of July 31, 2002).

    The season runs March 9 through June 1, and there will be tournaments at the end of the regular season. Players play at least half of every game.

    The registration fee of $65 per player includes a uniform, photo package and end-of-the-season award. Family discounts are available. After Feb. 28, there will be a $10 late registration fee charged and the family discount will not be offered.

    Volleyball Sign-ups

    The U.S. Volleyball League is holding registration through March 15 for the 2002 spring season, which will run from April 9 through June 8 at Camden Park in San Jose.

    The league is open to players ages 8-14, and the fee is $95 per player. The cost includes instruction, games, a uniform T-shirt and equipment.

    Asthma Athletic Scholarships

    The annual "Will to Win" Asthma Athlete Scholarships will return this year, offering $100,000 in scholarships to 11 high school seniors "who have excelled in athletics in spite of the challenge of asthma."

    Information on the national scholarship program is available at www.thewilltowin.org or by phone at 800.558.7305. The deadline for entries is April 30, 2002, and winners will be notified by June 2002.
