For the Del Mar High School girls basketball team, the season came down to a final five seconds. Last week, while the rest of the school was on midwinter break, the Lady Dons were playing the first round of the Central Coast Sectionals at home against the Seaside High School girls basketball team. With the score 49 to 50, Del Mar needed one basket to win and move into the CCS quarterfinals, but the ball bounced off the rim and the season was over. Although the season ended with a heartbreaker, the team had a phenomenal year, finishing with an overall record of 21 wins and 6 losses and a league record of 11 wins and 3 losses, tying them for first place with Leigh and Piedmont Hills High Schools.
