Internet-based companies are thriving in the Campbell area
By Michelle C. Crowe
To paraphrase Mark Twain, "The news of the Internet's demise is greatly overrated."
Historically, Campbell citizens and businesspeople have prided themselves on thrift and substance rather than pride and puffery--and that trend continues to bode well for local concerns.
In addition to last week's featured company, TradeSpeak.com, Redline Networks is another Internet-based Campbell company that's still going strong.
The firm just named Roy Johnson to the positions of president and chief executive officer, as well as new board member. Located in the new Campbell Technology Park, Redline helped lead the real-time acceleration technology that speeds up data center performance.
Yet another is iUniverse, the self-publisher's friend. While best known for its partnership with Weekly Reader, an educational publication for students, at the Training 2002 Conference held in Atlanta, the company debuted its Web-enabled solutions for a more grown-up group--the corporate training market. The new resource will allow employees and customers to buy either print or electronic versions of its Corporate University Xchange content on demand.
Valentine's Day may have passed, but the community's next festival is almost upon us--the Downtown Campbell Business Association's St. Patrick's Day Festival. Kudos to Stoddard's for historically providing the brew for such events. Contact Mio Vicino's general manager, Marsha Smith, who's also the president of the association, to volunteer, donate supplies or just get involved.
Thoughts of spring typically result in a plethora of garage sales throughout the city. People seeking a way to make some money from their closet clutter (without all of the work) should contact the new consignment shop One More Time at 408.371.5991. Located at Bascom Avenue and Arroyo Seco Drive, the store specializes in like-new designer clothes for men and women.
If you would like to clean up and prefer a tax deduction, consider donating to Companion Animal Rescue Effort's first garage sale/fundraiser instead. Contact 408.227.2273 with information on your items and someone will call you back with details.
