    Streets targeted for speeders

After recently collecting speed and volume data on more than 60 streets for the city's Neighborhood Traffic Management Program, the Campbell Public Works Department has determined that six streets in Campbell should be designated as special enforcement zones and will receive a higher level of speed enforcement by the Campbell Police Department.

The decision was based on the number of daily speeding violations, collision history and adjacent land uses.

The streets designated as special enforcement zones are Monica Lane, Redding Road, and Hardy, Christopher, Apricot and Victor avenues.

    Permit information available online

As of February, the Campbell Community Development Department provides information on building and planning permits to the public, contractors, and realtors on its city website.

Those accessing the site can retrieve information on the status of permits issued to properties, permit inspections and obtain parcel information.

The city also plans to offer minor permit application filing online this summer as an alternative to filing permits in person at Campbell City Hall.

For more information, go to www.cityofcampbell.com or contact the City Building Division at 408.866.2130.

Parking lot work to close roads

The parking structure under construction between Second and Third streets is one and a half months ahead of schedule, with major work to be completed by May, Campbell Senior Civic Engineer Al Oxonian said.

Due to good construction management and no major weather problems, the most difficult part of the work is scheduled for the end of February through the beginning of March.

Forty precast walls are being installed by a 160-ton crane, Oxonian said, with some of the walls measuring 29 feet long and weighing 23 tons. Because of safety issues, all lanes on Civic Center Drive will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., March 4-6. When crews stop work at the end of the day, one lane will be opened on Civic Center Drive between 5 p.m. and 6 a.m.

During this construction period, Second Street will also be closed on Feb. 27 and 28 and March 1, and Third Street will be closed March 7-8. Oxonian said detour signs will be posted to steer drivers around the work.
