    Campbell offers low-interest loans

    The city of Campbell has a loan assistance program for fixed-income residents needing financial help with home repairs.

    The program offers low-interest housing loans for single-family dwellings and mobile homes. The loans may be requested to repair or install new roofs, upgrade home electrical or plumbing systems, or repair termite damage.

    The rehabilitation loans are to be repaid within 15 years and start at an interest rate of 3 percent. The maximum loan for a single-family home is $40,000, and for a mobile home it is $15,000.

    WVC holds forum

    West Valley Community College will hold a public forum March 28, 7-9:30 p.m., to discuss how it can better support the communities it services.

    The forum will provide information on the purpose of a community college, with various speakers discussing how it meets the needs of high school students, businesses, seniors, students re-entering college, and students with special needs. Those attending are encouraged to ask questions and offer comments.

    Gardening classes at community center

    The University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners will teach a series of six classes at the Campbell Community Center, 1 W. Campbell Ave., March 26 to April 30 on Tuesdays from 6:30-9 p.m.

    Students enrolling in the classes will learn about sustainable gardening, orchids, dahlias, container gardening and cutting gardens. The class also plans to tour three local gardens. The class will cost $62 and includes all materials and supplies.

    Lane closures on Hamilton Ave.

    The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority will be closing lanes along the Union Pacific Railroad tracks at Hamilton Avenue and Creekside Way, as part of the Vasona Light Rail Project.

    Lanes closures are scheduled for March 18-22 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and March 25-29 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Daytime traffic will not be affected.

    Festival features local dance teacher

    The International Belly Dance Festival at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium, 27th Street and Nevin Avenue, in Richmond, will feature Jahmra Al Wahid, the Campbell Community Center belly dance teacher, on March 23 at 3:24 p.m.

    Al Wahid, also known as Erika Nicholas, has been teaching Middle Eastern dance classes at the community center for a year.

    "What I do is a great example of the diversity of programs offered at the community center," she said.

    The festival will be held March 22-24 and will feature more than 100 belly dancers on two stages. For more information, contact the Rakkasah Festival at 510.724.0214.

    FASTSIGNS owner receives award

    Campbell FASTSIGNS owner Steve Ladowitz recently received the Million Dollar Club Award at the 14th Annual FASTSIGNS national convention in Dallas, Texas. The award is given to a select group of FASTSIGNS owners who achieve high sales.

    The business, which has been in Campbell for 10 years, offers sign and graphic solutions for a variety of business needs.

    "We are constantly learning new things in the sign industry," Ladowitz said. "We stay on top so we can continue to offer our customers the most innovative products available."
