    Play ball!

    Both the Campbell Little League and the Campbell Bobby Sox League will hold opening-day ceremonies on March 25.

    Activities begin at 8 a.m. Saturday when the Campbell Little League opens the 2000 season with nearly 40 teams in action at the league's complex at Rosemary School on Hamilton Avenue.

    More than 250 girls will take part in Campbell Bobby Sox softball opening-day activities at 1 p.m. Saturday.

    PAL football sign-ups

    Campbell Wolverines, a youth football group affiliated with the Police Athletic League, is currently holding sign-ups for players and cheerleaders for the 2000 season.

    Boys and girls ages 8-14 are eligible. For more information contact the group's Web site at www.campbellfootball.com or call 408.379.8133.

    The group is also looking for coaches.

    Football coaches give clinic

    Veteran high school football coach Butch Cattolico, who has headed up a successful program at Los Gatos High School for the past two decades, will be among the 10 top-notch football coaches to speak at the CCSA Clinic of Champions on March 25, 12:30 p.m., at Sacred Heart High School in Atherton.

    Cattolico tops a line-up that features high school football coaches Mike Mitchell of St. Francis, Mike Holt of Andrew Hill, Mark Krail of Pioneer, Chris Cameron of Hollister, Tony Alanis of Woodside and Chris Oswald of Santa Clara. Ryan Buhk of the successful youth team, the Sunnyvale Micro Rockets, will also be among the speakers.

    The clinic is recommended for high school and youth coaches, but is open to the general public. The cost is $35 per person or $25 per person for groups of five or more.

    Challenger division announces sign-ups

    Little League District 44 has announced registration for its challenger division for the 2000 spring season.

    Sign-ups are for physically and mentally disabled youngsters, ages 7-17. Registration is free. Play is from March to June. For more information, call Ken or Anneliese Jones at 408.615.8807.
