    Castlemont Garden

    Elementary school garden serves as educational tool for entire community


    Tucked behind the trailer classrooms of Castlemont Elementary School on Payne Avenue is a secret garden, bursting with daffodils, sweet peas, multicolored freesias, several varieties of lettuce, herbs, fruits and vegetables, to name just a few. The garden was conceived in 1994 by children from the Gifted and Talented Education (G.A.T.E.) program, along with help from Castlemont teachers and the blessing of principal Phil Short. It was intended as a place that could involve the entire community.   More
