Bill Noda recounts the time he spent in a WWII internment camp the way an inmate recalls his time in prison: two years, four months, 23 days. His captivity was spent in paradise, but that was little comfort. Paradise was little more than a backdrop for the drama taking place in Hawaii, and in other parts of the United States during the war. The Japanese had just bombed Pearl Harbor, and Noda was seen as a suspect. He was questioned by the FBI about his involvement with the Japanese. They were convinced he was a spy.
