McGill honored
Del Mar senior Morgan McGill was one of 10 high school athletes recognized by the Central Coast Section (CCS) as Scholar/Athlete of the Year award winners.
McGill, an outstanding basketball and field hockey player for the Dons, was named the winner of a $500 scholarship as a CCS Scholar/Athlete.
Carlson honored
Prospect's Rod Carlson has been selected as a Central Coast Section Spring Sports Honor Coach for boys volleyball.
Carlson started his career as a swimming coach at the now-defunct Camden High School in 1976 and moved to the old Blackford High as the aquatics coach in 1981. He joined the staff at Prospect in 1983 and has been there ever since.
Carlson coached girls volleyball at the school for 17 years and boys swimming for 10. He has been the boys volleyball coach for the past four years and led the Panthers to the league championship in 2001.
Irish tourney
The sixth annual Irish American Heritage Society (IAHS) Golf Tournament will be held on May 20 at the Almaden Golf and Country Club.
Saratoga's Deirdre Gallagher, a former tutor for Bing Crosby's children, is a member of the organizing committee for the IAHS tournament, which has raised nearly $500,000 for scholarships, youth programs and economic development throughout Ireland.

Cat's Hill
The 28th annual Cat's Hill Criterium, a bicycle race held on the streets of downtown Los Gatos, is coming up May 11.
More than 400 amateur riders and 100 professionals will compete in a number of different races as they speed down Tait, Bayview, Nicholson and Bachman streets, and also make the famous climb up the steep Nicholson hill--Cat's Hill.
A portion of the proceeds from the race will benefit the Los Gatos Elementary Educational Foundation.

Diabetes golf
The 10th annual Diabetes Society of Santa Clara Valley Golf Classic will be played on June 4 at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in San Jose.
