Craft Car
Third-grade students at Country Lane Elementary School decorate artist Howard Vives' 1969 Mustang
|
A Berkeley artist has allowed a bunch of elementary school students to draw all over his antique Mustang. Howard Vives, a freelance graphic artist, told 18 third-graders to create pictures on his '69 Mustang using anything, from acrylic paint to color pencils and crayons. His instructions were explicit--the pictures were to depict him flying and he had to have a physical characteristic of an animal. The result was dozens of carefully drawn men with dreadlocks, goatees and any number of cat and dog tails, wings, stripes and spots. Country Lane Elementary School third-grade teacher Kim West said Vives calls the vehicle the 'art car' and told the students they would see his car driving around town.
