Market Place
Pockets plan for downtown falls apart after property sale
Farmers Market expands for summer
By Sarah Gaffney
Looks as if downtown Campbell won't be getting a billiards hall any time soon. Excitement had been building for some time about the opening of Pockets Billiards. It would have been a two-story billiards hall and restaurant on Campbell and Central avenues.
Last month, the $1 million construction project fell through when the site's property owner sold the parcel of land to South Bay Development. No word yet on what the new owners plan to do with the property.
Downtown Campbell has lost 40 parking spaces while construction is underway at the Bowen Office Building at the corner of Civic Center Drive and N. Central Avenue. The 12,000- square-foot, two-story building is slated to be finished later this year. Property owner Bruce Bowen is also selling some of the adjacent buildings that are home to La Bamba Hair, Yoga Fitness and others.
The Campbell Farmer's Market has expanded. The popular fruit and veggie emporium has added another block to accommodate the summer's bumper crops of organic produce. Featuring live music every week, the market is open Sundays, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
I know I've said this one before, but the official word from sources at the city of Campbell is that Stacks, the new breakfast spot on E. Campbell Avenue at Third Street, should be flipping the flapjacks by the end of this month.
The Campbell Historical Museum's wedding dress exhibit ends this month at the Ainsley House. The collection of 23 dresses, spanning the bridal fashions of the 20th century, are on loan from the museum's permanent collection, as well as from longtime Campbell families such as the Furtados and Yerkovichs.
