    Residents invited to discuss housing

The city's community development department is hosting a public workshop to discuss housing issues in Campbell from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on June 27, in the Redwood Room at the Campbell Community Center, 1 West Campbell Ave.

This meeting is being held so the department can hear ideas from residents about housing issues, because it is preparing the 2001-2006 Housing Element that establishes policies and programs to address the community's housing needs.

Of particular interest to the department are neighborhood conditions, development density in mixed-use areas, affordable housing for teachers, police officers and other civil servants, mandatory affordable housing ordinances, secondary units and current city and county housing programs.

    Annual concerts begin late June

The 2001 Summer Concert Series begins on June 28, with The Crew playing top 40s and Pop Rock on the Orchard City Green between city hall and the library in Campbell. The free concerts will be held on Thursdays, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. until the last play date on August 16. Participants can bring lawn chairs and picnic dinners, although proceeds from hot dogs, polish sausages, chips, cookies, wine, beer and soda sold at each concert go to the Museum Foundation.

For more information, call the Campbell Recreation Department at 408.866.2108.

    County considers donating to theater

Santa Clara County may donate $200,000 to the Heritage Theatre fund. County officials discussed the possibility last week during budget hearings. Both Mayor Matthew Dean and Vice Mayor Jeanette Watson spoke at one of the meetings. Watson is a member of a group called Friends of the Heritage Theatre. The theater is located at the Campbell Community Center, formerly the old Campbell High School.

The county is expected to make its decision sometime this week.
