    Chamber to host golf tournament

The 37th annual Campbell Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament is planned for 12:30 p.m. Aug. 2, at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club, 23600 McKean Road, in San Jose. The tournament fee is $175 per player, but chamber employees say there are already 144 people signed up to play, so they can allow only a maximum of eight more tickets to be sold.

Participants will get golf carts, barbecue lunches, dinners, tee prizes, raffle prizes and special discounts. Some of the special prizes include cash for anyone who gets a hole in one and four tickets to the CordeValle Golf Club in San Jose. Proceeds will go toward supporting the Chamber of Commerce and the Campbell Education Foundation. For more information, call the Chamber at 408.378.6252.

    Water district is offering grants

The Santa Clara Valley Water District is offering grants to community groups trying to maintain the county's waterways.

This is a pilot year for the district's Grant-in-Aid Program, which has $250,000 to give away. Approximately $200,000 will be given to grant proposals for between $5,000 and $25,000; approximately $50,000 will be given to proposals for $5,000 and less. The grants will be given to support local efforts to maintain and restore the watershed and protect water resources.

Applications for the one-year grants are due Aug. 17 and are available on the district's website, www.heynoah.com, or by calling Karna Carlson at 408.265.2600.
