Restaurant will help pay electricity bills during August
By Michelle C. Crowe
Keeping cool in Campbell during August isn't easy, especially given the continuing concern over the threat of rolling blackouts abruptly putting businesses offline, as well as increased utility costs.
For those seeking relief from the heat, both in terms of temperature and utility bill fees, the local Pruneyard location of the Louisville, Colo.-based Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery is offering a month-long promotion to help at least one lucky patron pay their August energy bill.
With the introduction and tapping of the appropriately-titled Rolling Black Out Stout on Aug. 1, the company kicked off the contest. Visitors to the restaurant-brewery can enter to win daily, with no purchase required. The winning entry will be drawn and announced on Aug. 31. In the meantime, imbibing the cool drinks amidst air conditioning at the Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery offers all patrons some refreshment during the dog days of August.
"This is one way we felt we could give back to the communities in which we do business and encourage people to keep their sense of humor during these tough times," says regional manager Scott Moore.
Separately, Larry Pedersen, owner of homegrown Campbell business A Tool Shed Inc. (with corporate offices at 55 East Hamilton Ave., and a store at 900 Dell Ave.), is also giving back to the community.
Pedersen was recently re-elected to serve a second year as president of the board of directors for the Rental Industry Association (RIA). His second three-year term began July 1.
Formerly known as the California Rental Association (CRA), the Woodland, Calif.-based RIA represents hundreds of contractor/homeowner and party/event rental dealers, suppliers and businesses in the western U.S. In addition to his operational duties running the eight locations of the 56-year-old family business A Tool Shed, Pedersen is fulfilling the role of CEO for the Rental Industry Association.
Both organizations were established at about the same time and have shared similar successes--A Tool Shed opened in 1945 in Santa Clara, while the Rental Industry Association began in 1946.
