    Basketball Clinic

    Stanford's Mike Montgomery will join top high school and youth basketball coaches at the CCSA Basketball Clinic of Champions on Sept. 16, 11:30 a.m., at St. Francis High School in Mountain View.

    Montgomery, the talented men's basketball coach for the Cardinal, will be the featured speaker at the clinic. Steve Filiosof St. Francis, Jim Marino of Los Gatos, George Banks of Independence and Pam Wimberly of Menlo Atherton are high school coaches who are on the list of speakers, along with young coaches John Wilkerson, Bob Sarlatte and John Sevey.

    Speakers will each give a 50-minute presentation on offense, defense or a particular aspect of the game of basketball. The clinic is recommended for high school and youth coaches, but is open to the general public.

    The event is expected to run from 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and the cost is $35 per person or $30 each for groups of five or more. For information, call clinic director Ray Calcagno at 650.969.3295 or log on to www.ccsa.net.

    Carousel to Coaster

    The annual Carousel to Coaster 10K run/5K walk returns to Paramount's Great America on Sept. 24, 8:30 a.m. All finishers receive a ribbon plus free admission to the park that day.

    The start-finish line and the registration table are in the Great America parking lot, and the course runs through the park and on neighboring streets. The registration fee is $20 on race day.

    Hockey Tryouts

    The Silicon Valley Quakes will hold tryouts for their 10-and-under and 12-and-under roller hockey teams on Sept. 17, 8 a.m.-10 a.m., at Rollin' Ice at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.

    Tryouts are open to players from throughout the valley. The Quakes will field traveling tournament teams in the 10-and-under mite (players born before Jan. 1, 1990) and 12-and-under squirt (players born before Jan. 1, 1988) age divisions.

    Mayor's Tourney

    The registration deadline for the annual Mayor's Youth Basketball tournament for eighth-grade boys and girls teams is Sept. 14. For more information, call 408.369.3900.
