Police Blotter
Going Batty--Sept. 8, 1:03 a.m. Two unknown suspects beat a Campbell man with a bat, causing severe injury. The man was walking home along S. Winchester Avenue when he was approached and asked if he wanted to buy drugs. One of the suspects then demanded the man's wallet. As the man started to hand over his wallet, the suspects started to beat him.
Egging On--Sept. 9, 12:30 p.m. Four juveniles were chased by police officers who had received a report of people prowling in the area near Valley Forge Way and Phelps Avenue. Two of the suspects were caught and taken into custody, where they admitted to throwing eggs at passing motorists on San Tomas Expressway.
Drive-By Robbery--Sept. 10, 10:40 p.m. Two men punched a man who was riding his skateboard near Campbell and Gilman avenues. The suspects stole the victim's skateboard and fled in a green Ford Thunderbird eastbound on Campbell Avenue.
Injury Accident--Sept. 14, 2:07 a.m. A 37-year-old suspect caused a car accident near Winchester and Budd avenues. Occupants of a vehicle that the suspect collided with sustained injuries and were transported to a hospital. The suspect was located near Friar Way and Winchester Avenue and determined to be intoxicated. The suspect was transported to a hospital.
Unpatriotic Behavior--Sept. 14, 6:30 a.m. An unknown suspect stole two "God Bless America" banners and four American flags that were set up at an office on Union Avenue. The suspect also broke lights that were illuminating the display.
Jelly Jam--Sept. 14, 9:15 a.m. A Walters Avenue couple were arguing about finances when the 40-year-old woman threw a jar of jelly at her 47-year-old husband. He did not wish to prosecute.
High Speed Chase--Sept. 14, 5:02 a.m. Two 15-year-old girls were taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol after officers followed them on a high-speed chase that reached speeds of 100 mph. The girls exited Highway 85 onto northbound Winchester Avenue and ran a red light at Hacienda Avenue, still traveling at approximately 100 mph. They attempted to turn onto Old Camden Avenue but failed to make the turn, instead crashing into a railroad arm, a city traffic light, railroad power boxes and a business on Harrison Avenue. A streetlight power failure resulted. The girls attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended by the CHP.
