    Campbell offering wine country trip

    The Campbell Recreation Department is offering a wine tasting trip to the Livermore Valley Oct. 20.

    Participants will travel by bus to and from the Campbell Community Center, 1 W. Campbell Ave.; visit the tasting rooms at the Wente, Concannon, Cedar Mountain and Ivan Tamas wineries; and have a picnic lunch catered by Wente.

    The trip, lunch and tasting fees cost $45; participants must be at least 21 years old and register by Oct. 4. Call 408.866.2105 for more information.

    Local pub hosting Irish musicians

    The King's Head Pub, 201 Orchard City Dr., is hosting traditional Irish musicians Johnny B. Connolly and Aidan Brennan, who play Irish button accordion and guitar, respectively, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

    Institute offering teacher workshop

    Middle and high school teachers in Santa Clara County are invited to attend a two-day workshop about reducing pollution in homes and schools.

    The Aquatic Outreach Institute, is holding "Watching our Watersheds" from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Coyote Hellyer County Park on Oct. 20 and Hacienda Elementary School on Oct. 27. Participants will receive information about how to lead environmental activities and develop projects to reduce the use of pesticides, herbicides and household products. Teachers can receive academic credit for the workshop, and those who conduct a classroom action project can receive a $150 stipend.

    The workshop is sponsored by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation and the Santa Clara Valley Urban Runoff Pollution Prevention Program. It costs $25, and registration is required. For information, call 510.231.5783.

    Art center showing photo exhibition

    The Kensington Art Centre, 347 E. Campbell Ave., is showing photographs by Joseph Schuett now through Oct. 28.

    The photographs, some previously shown at the San Jose Museum of Art and others new, are also for sale. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For information about this and other shows, classes and workshops, call 408.376.0231.

    Tour local solar homes Oct. 13

    The Northern California Solar Energy Association is sponsoring a fair of energy-efficient products and vendors and a tour of area solar homes Oct. 13.

    The fair is at Starbird Park in West San Jose, 1050 Boynton Ave., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Individuals can sign up there to participate in the tour for $15 per carload, association treasurer Andy Black said. The tour will stop at three to five homes in San Jose, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale that feature solar energy devices and other energy making and saving technologies, he said.
