    Talk of the Town

    By Jacqi Bowe

    Q. What events did you watch during the Olympics? Follow-up: Are there any new sports you'd like to see at the 2004 games?

It was tough for me to watch. I listen to the radio in the morning and I'd get the results ahead of time, so to watch them at night was pretty anti-climactic. But I wanted to see the USA baseball team win. We had a bronze and now we have the gold. Novelty sport? I'd like to see men's fast pitch softball. That would be something. It's all amateurs, and the guys do it for the love of the game.

I watched when Russia was playing. I tuned in for the boxers from Cuba. And I watched gymnastics, of course. Proposed program? I would like to see trick bike riding. It's like figure skating with music, on a bike. It's very popular in Europe.

The Women's triathlon. I was amazed. I would never be able to do that. They had so much ambition. One girl from the U.S. fell off her bike and she just kept going. She wouldn't give up. New sport? Competitive scooter--they could race.

The best part was the swimming competition when the deaf guy who didn't know how to swim so good got in and did it anyway. My teacher thought he was so inspiring too. He was just splashing! Athletic addition? Scooters and bikes. They could put in rollerskating too.
