    Del Mar student receives honor

Del Mar High School senior Ted Perry was named a Commended Student in the 2002 National Merit Scholarship Program by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation on Sept. 24.

Perry scored among the top 5 percent of more than 1 million students who took the 2000 Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test and is one of 34,000 Commended Students--and the only at Del Mar--in the nation this year.

Del Mar Principal Lisa Udell said colleges and universities will be notified of Perry's achievement, although they will not review his score on the PSAT, which is taken as practice for the SAT. She said Perry's skills as a writer contributed to his high score and academic achievement.
