Kirkwood Plaza will be haunted on Halloween
By Renee Canada
Ghosts and Goblins beware! For one afternoon at the end of this month, Kirkwood Plaza will transform itself into the haunting grounds for all the little witches and warlocks of Campbell.
Children ages 10 and under are invited to participate in the costume contests and trick-or-treating at Kirkwood Plaza's ninth annual Halloween celebration on Saturday, Oct. 28. All the stores at Kirkwood, located on the corner of W. Campbell Avenue and San Tomas Aquino Road, will play a role in the afternoon of fun and games.
Costumed children (accompanied by an adult) can safely stroll through the plaza trick-or-treating for candy from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those lucky enough to find candy with stickers on them will also win prizes, ranging from comic books to art projects.
The first of three costume contests begins at 11:30 a.m. Winners take the first prize of a $100 gift certificate. Country music station KRTY (95.3 FM) will be providing music with a live remote broadcast and prizes.
People strolled along Campbell Avenue for a different reason Sunday, Oct. 8 at the Canine Family Walk. The two-mile fun walk was sponsored by Companion Animal Rescue Efforts (CARE), which helped to raise money for abandoned animals.
At 9 a.m., walkers and their four-legged friends hit the Campbell Par Course at Gillman and Campbell avenues.
This year's Canine Family Walk raised over $3,000, which will go directly towards the veterinary bills of the animals CARE puts up for adoption.
CARE is a non-profit organization that responds to the pet overpopulation problem in the Santa Clara County. Founded in 1987, CARE finds stable homes for homeless or unwanted dogs and cats, as well as educates the public about pet responsibility. CARE foster pets are spayed or neutered and given their appropriate shots, before being placed with their new owners.
CARE is located at the Maple Leaf Plaza at 4190 Piper Drive in San Jose. Donations can be made to CARE, P.O. Box 111474, Campbell, CA 95011-1474. Call 408.227.CARE (2273).
Correction
Last week's Marketplace column incorrectly reported the address of Tarlow's clothing store. The correct address is 68 E. Campbell Ave.
