Local artists to participate in Christmas in the Studio
The 21st annual Christmas in the Studio, a group show and sale by 36 California artists, takes place Oct. 26-28 at the San Jose Scottish Rite Center, 2455 Masonic Drive in San Jose. Among the items for sale are ceramics, baskets, clothing, quilts, dolls, paintings, graphics, handmade holiday ornaments, jewelry, textiles, beads and glass.
Among the artists exhibiting are: Renee Droese, handmade soaps and watchbands; Donna Frank, dolls and fetishes; Nancy Papa, envelopes and wood and paper boxes; Lorri Ann Scott, hand-dyed, hand-woven garments; Mary Simmons, gourds and fiber art; and Minaret Designs, handmade journals and Ukrainian egg ornaments.
Christmas in the Studio was started 20 years ago by artist Maxine Kirmeyer, who wanted to support her basketry school in San Jose.
Her many artist friends brought finely crafted items to Kirmeyer's studio for group shows each year, just before the holidays.
Although Kirmeyer closed her school in 1993, the tradition continues.
Throughout the show, those attending can participate in drawings to win items donated by each of the artists. Light refreshments will also be served. The public is invited to an artists' reception on Oct. 26, from 6 to 9 p.m. For show times or further information, call 408.379.4554.
