On Tuesday, May 26, 1896, James Dunham, son-in-law of Col. Richard Parran McGlincy and Ada Wells McGlincy, entered their home and proceeded to carry out his murderous deed. Dunham found his wife, Hattie, gagged her and fatally broke her neck. Hearing the commotion, the family maid, Minnie Shesler, ran into the room only to have Dunham crush her skull with an axe. Alarmed by the noise upstairs, Mrs. McGlincy left her downstairs bedroom to investigate. Her son-in-law dealt her five fatal axe-blows to the head. Dunham also shot Col. McGlincy, his stepson, James Wells and ranch hand Robert Briscoe. He fled the scene on horseback and was never found.
