    Kensington Art Centre shifts gears

Artist Bruni getting ready for a tribute to Mother Teresa

    By Renee Canada

Change is coming with the new year for Kensington Art Centre. Resident artist Carolyn Larsen has spread the news that Kensington, at 347 E. Campbell Ave., will soon transform their showroom into a retail art consignment store.

For seven years, Kensington has been holding receptions and month-long shows for solo artists and groups of artists. It has been one of the few venues that allow artists to exhibit their work for an extended period of time, sharing their art with the public.

"As an artist myself, I'm kinda sorry that one more venue for emerging artists to display their work for an extended length of time is leaving," Larsen admitted. However, the economy even dictates the art market, and the new store can bring in more revenue for the gallery. The store will sell gift items, pottery and high-end art.

Kensington Art Centre will continue to display the works of different artists, though not as grandly as it has done in the past. Kensington will also remain open for classes and custom framing.

Kensington will continue to hold shows through the end of December, making its transition at the start of the new year. Their current show includes the small works of 15 artists and features painted gourds, mosaic birdhouses, pottery, silk paintings and photographs. Call 408.376.0231 for more information.

In other art news, Bruni Gallery, at 394 E. Campbell Ave., is gearing up for a Tribute to Mother Teresa by artist Bruni Sablan. The collection currently numbers 10 paintings, capturing the giving spirit of the Nobel Peace Prize winner.

The holidays are almost upon us, which means it's about that time for giving. Chase Manhattan is doing its part to lend a hand with Toys for Tots and Canned Food Drives.

From Monday, Nov. 27 through Dec. 15, Chase Manhattan invites the public to stop by and donate unwrapped toys and gifts between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. You'll be rewarded with juice and cookies, and the warm feeling that you've helped someone to better enjoy the holidays.

Chase Manhattan is located at 910 Campisi Way, Suite 1B. For more questions, call Charlynn Neuhoff at 408.626.8488, ext. 208.
