For the past two years, job-training specialist Ramona Lucero has been a guiding force for American Indians in the South Bay, helping them find jobs or earn general education diplomas, among other tasks. "We're a social service agency," Lucero says of the Candelaria American Indian Council, now in its 26th year. "In conjunction with the American Indian Center, we serve low-income Native Americans that need job enhancement, vocational training. We also do supportive services--like buying bus passes so they can get to their interview, buying books, [providing] clothing for interviews--anything to enhance their employment."
