Locals win all-league honors
McGill tops list of Del Mar players

Chris McSwain and Andrew Palmyra of Del Mar and Bill Stouffer of Westmont won special awards when the coaches in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League got together to select their all-league team.
McSwain, a senior wide receiver for the Dons, was named the division's outstanding receiver and Palmyra, senior a receiver and defensive back, was picked the outstanding utility player in the division.
Stouffer, a senior linebacker and running back for the Warriors, was picked the division's outstanding linebacker.
Joining McSwain and Palmyra on the all-league list for Del Mar were senior quarterback Jason Campbell, senior defensive lineman Senad Kraja, senior linebacker Cory Sampson and junior linebacker Daniel Mayorquin.
Senior running back Mike Hilbert and senior defensive back Todd Bethke were other Westmont players selected to the all-league first team in the division.
Talented senior running back Saladin Washington was Prospect's only player named to the all-league's top squad.
Field Hockey
Del Mar dominated the West Valley Division and Stephanie Nichols of Prospect was named the sophomore of the year in the Mount Hamilton Division when BVAL coaches convened to select their all-league field hockey teams for the 2000 season.
Morgan McGill topped a list of three Del Mar players to win special honors in the West Valley circuit. The junior forward was named the division's most valuable player.
Defender Missy Schaaphok was named the West Valley senior of the year and goalkeeper Veronica Syles was picked the freshman of the year. Del Mar's Gene Sampson was also named as the coach of the year in the division.
Winning all-league first team honors for the Dons were McGill, junior forward Lindsey Menkemeller, senior link Tina Leung, senior defender Kristen Oswald and senior Mandy Fine. Senior link Whitney Condie and junior link Hilary Mercante were Dons named to the all-league second team.
Westmont players earning all-league first team recognition in the West Valley Division were junior forward Karly Brownridge and sophomore defender Lauren Luque. Junior goalkeeper Petra Rossek and junior for- ward Nicki Baughman won second- team spots.
