Moreland hires its new school superintendent

The Moreland School District on June 12 selected Dr. Les Adelson as its new superintendent. Adelson will replace Dr. Jim Ritchie, who was Moreland's superintendent for 11 years and is retiring. Adelson will begin working for the district on August 1.

ca-news-p5-mug.jpg Adelson served for nine years as superintendent for the South Pasadena Unified School District before accepting his new position.

Prior to his current position as superintendent in South Pasadena, he held administrative positions that coordinated services for gifted students, English as a second language and school improvement programs for the disadvantaged.

Adelson earned his bachelor's in speech communication from California State University, Northridge in 1970, his master's degree in special education at the University of Redlands in California in 1979 and his doctorate in educational management at the University of La Verne in 1987.

The search for a new superintendent was conducted by a joint committee of community members, teachers and staff; the search process was initiated in January 2002.

New parking garage

The public is invited to the dedication of the city's new parking garage at Second Street between Civic Center Drive and Campbell Avenue on June 18 at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

The new 301-space parking lot will provide two-hour parking on the ground floor and long-term parking on the second and third floors.

The project, which was initially approved in April 2000, was begun June 2001 and completed a month earlier than originally estimated.
