For most Little League all-star teams, the summer baseball season ended in district tournaments.

But not for the Campbell Little League 12-year-old all-stars. They may have been eliminated in the District 44 tournament, but they went on to record a successful finish with a sixth-place finish in the 12-team USTOC West Coast World Series qualifier at the Twin Creeks Sports Complex in Sunnyvale.

Campbell posted a 2-3 record in the tourney, beating the Mountain View Outlaws 11-0 and the Sacramento Natomas Tribe 3-1 while losing to the Vacaville Crushers 6-3, the Vacaville Hawks 9-1 and the Bay Area Bullets 9-6.

Trevor Vlay and Kyle McDonald of Campbell were selected to the all-tournament, the squad chosen by the managers of the teams in the tourney.

Campbell opened the tourney by blanking Mountain View 11-0. The locals jumped out to an early lead with seven runs in the first.

Michael Cody Lang had two hits, scored twice and drove in three runs to lead Campbell to the victory. Jordon Groo blanked the Outlaws on two hits over four innings, striking out five, to get the pitching win. However, he suffered a wrist injury in the game and was lost for the rest of the tournament.

McDonald flipped a four-hitter in Campbell's 3-1 win over Sacramento. Nick Miller scored two of the club's three runs, and Lang scored the other. Lang had two hits and stole two bases.

Vlay starred at catcher in Campbell's 6-3 loss to the Crushers. He tagged out a runner at the plate after a strong throw from Kevin Kephart in center field, and he also cut down two runners attempting to steal.

Andrew Formale and Lang each pitched well in the loss.

Campbell's best game of the tourney came against the Bullets, despite the 9-6 loss. Campbell led 2-1 after an inning and 5-4 after five, but the Bullets rallied for five in the sixth to win it.

Cannon Bernarding had two hits and scored twice for Campbell, and Jason Brady and Steven Hoang each doubled. McDonald struck out five and allowed just six hits over five strong innings.

Rick McDonald was the manager of the Campbell team, which also included Gavin Copley, Tyler Gullickson and James McCririe.
