City remembers Sept. 11 attacks

The city of Campbell honored the victims of Sept. 11 and commemorated the anniversary of the attack during a morning ceremony on the Orchard Civic Green that included the Campbell Police Department (CPD), Santa Clara County Fire Department and the Westmont High School brass ensemble. The song "This Land is your Land" was performed by vocalist Mary Linduska.

Local residents and students from Capri and Rosemary elementary schools, Campbell Middle School and Westmont High School listened to brief speeches and quietly watched the county fire and CPD color guard honor the anniversary by raising two flags to half-mast on the city's new flagpoles, which were recently added at the entrance to the green. The city also unveiled a plaque called "The Orchard City Green Flag Memorial," which will be permanently placed on the green in honor of those "who served and sacrificed for our country."

Campbell Mayor Jeanette Watson encouraged citizens to become actively involved in the community, either through civic service or volunteering.

Many in the crowd were wearing red, white and blue as a show of patriotism and joined local leaders in the singing of the national anthem and "God Bless America," and a recitation of the Pledge of Allegience.
