Gazlay stars

Prospect's Katie Gazlay knocked in two goals to lead the Panthers to a tight 2-1 win over Westmont last week in girls soccer play in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

Gazlay, a senior co-captain for the Panthers, scored both of her goals in the second half, one unassisted and the other off an assist from sophomore Lisa Wiens.

Westmont had taken the early lead in the game on a first-half goal by junior midfielder Denise Picard.

Prospect ended up 4-7-1 in league play and 7-11-2 for the year. Playing their final game for the Panthers, along with Gazlay, were senior co-captains Brooke Madsen and goalkeeper Rachel Gagliasso. Randi Gillespie and Raquel Holyoak were other seniors seeing their final action for Prospect.

Juniors Meghan Dunagan, Kelly Hamilton, Tara Rodriguez, Pamela Salter and Nicolette Vallorz and sophomores Shawna Enos, Lizzie Innes, Jennifer Katz, Dana Martinez, Casie Reiss and Emily Twining join Wiens as players expected to return for the Panthers next season.

Westmont, 0-12 in league, had lost 7-1 to first-place Santa Teresa earlier in the week, despite a first-half goal by Picard.

Warriors playing their final games included seniors Victoria Alexander, Nicole Harmer, Lauren Luque and Shelby Chapman. Joining Picard as returners are juniors Amanda Ufheil-Somers, Karri Iyama, Kristy Iyama, Danielle Silva and Brianne Johnson; sophomores Laura Hawkins, Johanna Publicover, Vanessa Tapia, Chelsea Dunton and Michelle McLellan; and freshmen Brianna Driggs, Nicole Givens, Katie Iyama, Erica King, Candice Riveria and Jennifer Scott.
