More new businesses move into Campbell, bringing more variety
By Michelle C. Crowe
Michelle C. CroweSeveral new businesses have either established themselves in or recently moved into Campbell, while another marked that all-important first anniversary.

Campbell Consignment, featuring decorator-quality consignment furniture and décor, just opened on Oct. 10 in The Courtyard at 327 E. Campbell Ave. Owner Mark Maselli has the consignment business in his blood. Not only was the local boy born and raised here (he graduated from Prospect High School), his aunt owned California Consignment up in Menlo Park, and his family also consigned a lot of furniture through other local stores.

"I just graduated from UC Davis with a degree in communications, and opening this store here is really what I wanted to do," said Maselli, whose shop currently features bed frames, Bombay chests, sofas, benches, and tabletop and wall accessories. "We hope to specialize in unique, one-of-a-kind items, as well as artwork by local artists."

While there's a limited amount of space in Maselli's 900-square-foot store, he's especially looking for armoires, dressers and desks, as well as accessories. He offers a 60/40 split and a 45-day consignment period.

Campbell Consignment is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is closed on Monday and Tuesday. The store can be reached at 408.871.1811

AutoZone, the Memphis-based auto-parts chain (and a Fortune 500 company) opened its first Campbell store on Oct. 8. Located at 94 N. San Tomas Aquino Road near Kelly-Moore Paint, the approximately 4,000-square-foot store features a broad line of auto replacement parts, from spark plugs to complete engines, as well as accessories, chemicals and motor oil. Customers can bring their used engine oil to the stores for recycling.

Local mechanics and repair shops take note—you can receive credit and delivery service from AutoZone through the company's commercial program. Do-it-yourself customers can even borrow certain specialty tools required for specific one-time repair jobs. The customer pays for the tool upon checking it out from the store and receives a full refund when it's returned. The tool is due back within 48 hours of checkout.

"We're the largest AutoZone store in the South Bay," says assistant manager Ronald Trambley, who transferred to the Campbell store from the Santa Clara location at 2355 El Camino Real. "What makes us different is simple—we offer quality products at low prices with good customer service. We do have a varied selection and carry a larger in-house inventory than many other similar stores. We also plan to start offering commercial accounts soon, as well as partnerships, such as the one with the Campbell Midas Store."

AutoZone is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The store can be reached at 408.370.0758.

A slightly belated welcome to Campbell goes out to Bloomers Florist, formerly of Vasona Station on Winchester Boulevard in Los Gatos. Owner Jean Paz reports the entire company successfully completed its transplant to 3493 S. Bascom Ave. (between Woodard Rd. and Shelley Ave.) right after Mother's Day last year, which is one of the busiest times of the year for florists.

"We moved out of Los Gatos and into Campbell between May 17 and 19, and didn't miss a day of deliveries," Paz says.

Bloomers can be reached at its new telephone number, 408.369.4888, as well as on the web at www.abloomerflower.com.

The Chef King Restaurant is almost back. Located at 727 W. Hamilton Ave. (next to Round Table Pizza), the Chinese restaurant anticipated reopening by presstime, but has been delayed. If all goes well, owner Curtis Shing hopes to open for business before the end of the month, and at least in time for the December holidays. The newly remodeled banquet room will be available for free to parties of 50 or more who order the $15 buffet. Call the restaurant at 408.374.6009 for details.

Family Chinese Food, located at 472 W. Hamilton Ave., is now the much-catchier Fat Wok Chinese Fast Food. Owner Sam Chau remains the faithful chef who cooks without MSG. Specialties include five flavors chicken, tangerine boneless ribs, vegetable tofu and dai chin chicken. Call 408.374.8388 for more information.

Congratulations to The Running Revolution's trio of owners, brothers Chris and Tim Schenone, and Tim's wife, Heidi Schenone, on their recent one-year anniversary. Located near Bradley Video at 511 E. Campbell Ave., next to North American Title and Images Hair Salon, the athletes' specialty shoe shop stocks the latest in running shoes, apparel and accessories.

The Running Revolution is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The store can be reached at 408.374.9310.

In addition to special discounts, there will be a drawing for a custom silk floral arrangement valued at up to $250. Located at 1875 S. Bascom Ave., Suite 600, Terra Nova is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The store can be contacted by phone at 408.371.3233 or visited on the web at http://www.terranova-homeaccents.com.
