NJB champions
An eighth-grade girls all-star team, representing four cities and the West San Jose chapter of NJB (National Junior Basketball), is a national champion.
The team, coached by Nash Marino and Chris Owen, won four straight games to claim the Grade 8 Evans division title at NJB's National All-Star Tournament in Anaheim recently.
Team members are Kelly Martino, Amanda Hui, Richa Gupta, Katrina Rodrigues and Sarah Trankle of Cupertino; Becca Gularte of Sunnyvale; Robin Araujo, Alex Langford and Alyssa Singh of Campbell; and Valerie Castro and Tara McIver of Santa Clara.
West San Jose beat Coyote Creek 42-36 in the championship game, after dumping Fremont South 36-27 in the semi-finals of the nine-team tourney. The local squad began pool play a day earlier by walloping Yorba Linda 52-22 and Irvine 46-31.
Outreach golf
The 25th annual Western Digital Outreach charity golf tournament will be held Sept. 13 at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Course. Proceeds will benefit multicultural, elderly, disabled and economically disadvantaged persons and families in Santa Clara County. For more information, call 408.436.2865.
Youth football
The CampbellSaratoga Wolverines youth football organization is holding sign-ups for players ages 814 and cheerleaders ages 615. Check the website at www.campbellfootball.net for more information.
Track meet
The San Jose City-Wide Youth Track Meet for boys and girls ages 914 will be held May 23, 8 a.m.3 p.m., at Evergreen Valley High School. The meet will include running and field events. There is no entry fee.

Wedemeyer winners
Willow Glen High School's Ngoan Phan and Gilbert Rosales, Nick Larice of Live Oak High School and Marrield Berry of Santa Teresa each won scholarships when the Charlie Wedemeyer Family Outreach presented its sixth annual Celebration of Hope on May 13 at the Decathlon Club.
