Sunny Garden Fine Chinese Cuisine, owned by Ruilin Zhang, officially opened at 2455 S. Winchester Blvd. on April 10. (Zhang purchased the business from the former owner of the Tasty Vegetarian Restaurant at that same location.)
Don't let the strip-mall location fool you. Zhang's partner/chef Xiu Guo Xue honed his culinary skills for 25 years at the five-star Beijing Hotel in Beijing. Sunny Garden Chinese Restaurant is the first business for both Zhang and Xue.
"If you want to taste authentic, high-class Chinese food, please come here," Zhang says. "Even though we've only been open a short time, about 80 percent of our business is already return customers. They tell us they are happy and satisfied with both the food and the prices."
As part of its grand-opening celebration, Sunny Garden has two specials. One is a lunch special entree for $4.59 that includes soup. The other is a choice of any three entrees plus soup for just $15. Specializing in Mandarin Chinese food, the menu boasts 80 different items (although Sunny Garden can also accommodate requests for Hunan, Szechuan and even some Cantonese dishes).
Sunny Garden is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. for both dine-in and take out service. The restaurant's number is 408.374.9791.
Sadly, we bid adieu to Scrapbook Alley, formerly located in the Campbell Plaza Shopping Center. Scrapbook Alley has merged with Anne's Keepsakes of Willow Glen, located at 2259 Lincoln Ave. (at the corner of Curtner Avenue), formerly located at 2523 Winchester Blvd. #G. Anne's Keepsakes' new endeavor with Scrapbook Alley has resulted in a quadrupling of Anne's inventory.
Readers may recall that owners Deborah Moore-Moreno and Stephanie McNally called their business Scrapbook City before they changed the name to "Scrapbook Alley."
Anne's Keepsakes owner Anne Veen is excited about the additional inventory and resources available to her customers. More information can be found online at www.ourkeepsakes.com. Store hours are Monday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Anne's Keepsakes can be reached by phone at 408.269.6609.
Frame Image, a custom-framing concern, has leased Scrapbook Alley's former space. The shop is open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store is closed on Sunday; its number is 408.866.7303.
Congratulations to Hobee's Restaurants, which celebrates its 30-year anniversary this month. While the franchise at The Pruneyard Shopping Center located at 1875 S. Bascom Ave. is not as established as the original one, its customers are still invited to join in the special anniversary promotion, called the "Name Game." Customers are asked to re-imagine the origin of the name "Hobee's" that founder Paul Taber simply invented. (For example, creating a story with a character named Hobee's or a tale that explains the name.) One winner from each store will be selected, and the prize is a delicious reward of 30 Hobee's meals. Hurry, the contest ends May 31. Hobee's can be reached at 408.369.0575.
This month marks the anniversary arrival of the 17-year-cycle cicadas (those are winged bugs to you and me). To keep these and other pests out, consider a visit to Screen Solutions, located at 2075 S. Winchester Blvd., #102.
The store's unique retractable screens provide new options for homeowners who desire flexibility in their pest barriers. The shop specializes in Phantom Retractable Screens, which can be pulled out when needed and rolled back when unneeded. The professionally installed products come with a lifetime warranty. They can be used for front doors, double French doors, sliding patio doors and a variety of standard and oversize window sizes.
Owner Steve Gandy's shop is the only authorized distributor of these screens in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. The showroom is available by appointment only. For a free screen consultation, contact the store at 408.374.8156 or 888.PHANTOM.

Wei Fang Antique Chinese Furniture, a purveyor of fine Asian antique furniture, recently opened at 1190 Dell Ave., Suite #B (near the percolation pond). Specializing in tables and chairs, cabinets and screens, as well as baskets, Wei Fang features the kind of unique furniture you'd otherwise need to travel up the Peninsula to locate (for example, to Man-U Imports in San Mateo). The store has a variety of red, brown and black lacquer pieces, as well as even more rare materials, such as Yuwood and red leather. You can even find a mah-jongg table, an altar table or a six-panel screen.
Wei Fang is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Many pieces can be viewed online at www.wei-fang.com, and Wei Fang will special-order pieces for customers. The store's number is 408.370.2858.
